Message from your ACHE Regent
Winter 2025
Congratulations and welcome incoming CT Regent Ysmael Albert Peguero, DBA, FACHE! Albert’s term will start at Congress in March 2025. I have enjoyed being a Regent and honored to have represented the CTAHE membership nationally with ACHE. While bittersweet to be writing my last Regent message I have had the pleasure of meeting amazing members, leaders, students, Regents, Governors, and the ACHE staff. To all my fellow Regents I have most enjoyed being a part of this family.
Reflecting on the last three years, I have enjoyed engaging with our Higher Education Network schools, faculty and students. I would like to re-recognize the Regent Award winners during my tenure as Regent:
This past weekend I heard from Lt. Garcia Curtis. Garcia graduated from the University of New Haven MHA program in 2023. I served as a reference for Garcia to enter the Naval Academy as an officer, she was accepted and graduated from the Naval Academy in summer 2023. Garcia was 1 of 100 competitive applicants for 30 available spots. When I spoke to her recruiter, I was not surprised to hear Garcia was ranked as the #1 applicant. Garcia is currently serving in Guam and has 11 months left there. She is currently serving as the Department Head of Tricare Operations for the Directorate of Healthcare Business in the hospital. During Garcia’s time as a student chapter liaison, she was highly engaged, and I knew back then that Garcia would move on to do great things. This is one of many stories during my time as Regent that have come full circle, and it is both an honor and a privilege as an ACHE Regent to represent the CT membership and Higher Education Networks interacting with the students and faculty. LTJG, O-2 Garcia Curtis thank you for your service!
Another great story from Jordan Schweindenback, DHSc, MHA graduate of the University of New Haven MHA program and current instructor UNH MHA Capstone Course. Five years ago, he completed his own capstone project with Bristol Health. Now, as the instructor for this year’s capstone, it was a rewarding experience to come back full circle and guide the students through a similar journey. Credit and thanks to CTAHE Vice President Ysmael Albert Peguero, DBA, FACHE & ACHE incoming ACHE Regent and past ACHE Governor, Regent and CTAHE past President Kurt Barwis, FACHE, President & CEO Bristol Hospital. This is an excellent example of the student mentorship & leadership opportunities with ACHE Higher Education Network and the local chapter CTAHE.
Congratulations to the new 2024 ACHE Fellows; Joubin Bavarian, RN, FACHE; Quian Callender, FACHE; Janeille I. Ervin, FACHE; Tammy Freeberg, FACHE; Andrew Lim, MD, FACHE; Kimberley Palma, FACHE; Oladayo Sule, FACHE; Ross Utter, FACHE and Jenn Carroll, DNP, FACHE. Join us for insightful discussions and explore how the principles of collective intelligence can apply to our work and communities! The Wisdom of Crowds by James Surowiecki explores the concept that large groups of people often make better decisions than individuals or experts. Surowiecki argues that collective intelligence can lead to improved problem-solving and more effective decision-making when certain conditions are met, diversity of opinion, independence of members, decentralization and aggregation of information. Through engaging anecdotes and case studies, the book illustrates how crowds can provide insights and solutions that individuals may overlook. Meeting Date: Last Tuesday of each month open to Members and Non-Members!
