Spring Regent’s Report

A Message from your ACHE Regent

Spring 2025

Spring Greetings, Fellows, Members, Students, and Colleagues,

Happy Spring! I hope this season brings renewal and energy to each of you. I’m honored to serve as your newly elected Regent and am excited to begin this three-year journey advancing healthcare leadership excellence together.

My term officially began on Saturday, March 22, during the ACHE Council of Regents Meeting. The Council of Regents is made up of leaders elected to represent their members and influence the greater good of the organization. With an understanding of ACHE’s policies, programs, services and the needs of its members, the Council harnesses its collective skill to advance ACHE’s vision, mission and values. In addition to providing advice and counsel to the Board of Governors, the Council also has the important responsibility of electing the Board of Governors and its Chair.

I’m thrilled to introduce the recently appointed 2025–2026 Regent Advisory Council, who will support my efforts to connect and engage with you all throughout the Convocation Year: Austin Potter, FACHE, Kim Lumia, RN, FACHE, Stephen Liebowitz, DHA, Tami McCumons, FACHE, Alex Ofer, FACHE, Eduardo De La Mata, Nancy Logel, RN, Siobhan Blancaflor, and Victoria Baez. Thank you all for your willingness to serve and contribute your talents.

I’d also like to extend my deepest gratitude to my mentor, friend, and colleague Kim Lumia, RN, FACHE, who recently concluded her term as Regent for Connecticut. Kim’s leadership has left a lasting impact, and I’m grateful she will continue to serve our community. With the approval of the Connecticut Association of Healthcare Executives (CTAHE) Board of Directors, Kim has now assumed the vice president role I vacated, effective through Dec. 31, 2025. I’m so glad we’ll continue working together in new ways!

As I write this message, Mother Nature has surprised us with unseasonably cold temperatures and snow. If you ventured out in this weather, chances are you reached out for a few extra layers—an apt reminder of the uncertainty and change that define our industry, and a resemblance of our ability and need to pivot and do what’s necessary in the best interests of our organization and those we serve when we face unexpected times. I’m reminded of something Dr. Brené Brown shared during the Parker B. Francis Distinguished Lecture at the ACHE 2025 Congress on Healthcare Leadership: “We must create space between stimulation and response.” That space allows us to respond with intention, preserve our well-being, and better serve our organizations.

This theme was echoed at CTAHE’s recent Breakfast with Leaders event, where David Wildebrandt, partner at Berkeley Research Group Healthcare, facilitated a powerful discussion with Chris O’Connor, FACHE, CEO of Yale New Haven Health, and Peter Chadwick, managing director at Berkeley Research Group. Together, they explored the 2025 U.S. Healthcare & Life Sciences Transactions Outlook and the dynamic forces shaping our field, which often challenge us beyond measure. The conversation was a strong reminder of the profound impact our work has on communities and patients, and how essential our resilience is during challenging times.

So here is my challenge to each of you: No matter your role or title—whether you’re an early careerist, mid-level leader or senior executive—take a moment to pause and reflect. Think back to your first day in this industry: What sparked your interest? What motivated you? What is your why?

I’d love to hear your answers at an upcoming ACHE or CTAHE event.

As we head into the spring and summer months, I also encourage you to create intentional space for rest and renewal. Taking time off to be with loved ones is not just beneficial—it’s essential. Studies show time away leads to greater creativity, improved focus and productivity, and reduced stress.

In between moments of rest, I invite you to stay connected and engaged with CTAHE, our local ACHE chapter. There are many valuable events, networking opportunities, and educational sessions planned. Visit www.ctahe.org for the latest updates.

Special recognition to CTAHE’s Annual Sponsors: Berkeley Research Group, Exact Sciences, Hartford Healthcare, Yale New Haven Health, Berry Dunn, Bristol Health, and Trinity Health.

Before I close, I want to remind you that ACHE remains your trusted partner, helping you achieve your personal best while making healthcare safer, more accessible and affordable to all. Please look out for more information about all of the great things our professional society is doing as we embark on ACHE’s new Strategic Plan, focused on being a Catalyst, Connector, and Trusted Partner!

A heartfelt thank-you to ACHE’s Premier Corporate Sponsors, whose support helps make our work possible: Core Clinical Partners, Exact Sciences, Genentech, GSK, Intuitive, JLL Healthcare, LeanTaaS, Quest Diagnostics, RLDatix, and Sanofi.

As I pledged during my candidacy—and as I had the privilege of doing at the Yale School of Public Health in early April with Stephen Liebowitz, FACHE, and Jon Figliola—my top commitment to all of you is to be both an active listener and a proactive communicator. You’ll hear from me quarterly in these Regent messages, but I invite you to reach out anytime. You can find my contact information below and in the ACHE Regent Directory.
